Many maps are dated 1860 and 1861. Water-staining across titlepage and table of contents, but does not affect any of the maps. Early hand-colored plates of the United States and the world by the Mitchell family, a preeminent map-making family of the 19th century. Binding is very shaken, one loose plate, definitely a candidate for rebinding, but the maps are in spectacular shape. A scarce and fine example of Mitchell's atlas work.
